Yesterday marked the inauguration of President Donald Trump, a moment that brings a variety of emotions to many across our nation. Personally, I am encouraged and optimistic about his return to office, believing it reflects God’s grace upon our country in many ways. From addressing the sanctity of life to upholding the God-ordained distinctions between men and women, these are issues where biblical truth shines, and I am grateful to see that align with them.
Yet, as we reflect on this new chapter of leadership, it is vital to remember this: no president, regardless of their policies or actions, can save our country. Salvation and restoration belong to the Lord alone. As much as we might celebrate today, we must guard our hearts from placing ultimate hope in earthly leaders. God alone reigns sovereign over all nations, and it is His purposes that stand forever.
Scripture reminds us:
The king’s heart is a tream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He will. Proverbs 21:1
For kingship belongs to the Lord, and He rules over the nations. Psalm 22:28
God’s sovereignty is a comfort and a foundation for our faith. Whether we feel encouraged or disappointed by our leadership, our trust must always rest in Him. He raises up leaders and brings them down according to His will (Daniel 2:21), and His purposes are for His glory and the good of His people (Romans 8:28).
Today, let us give thanks where thanks is due. Celebrate the victories that reflect God’s grace and truth. But let us also bow our hearts before the Lord, acknowledging that He alone is our King. Pray for President Trump, that he may lead with wisdom, integrity, and humility, and pray for our nation to turn its eyes to Christ – the only Savior and true hope for every soul.
Soli Deo gloria!
