About

Hi, I’m Melissa! I’m a writer in the Pacific Northwest, passionate about exploring faith and encouraging women to stand firm on God’s Word. I grew up in a traditional Lutheran church and spent many years in a large evangelical church after joining in my early 20s. These experiences have shaped my writing, where I reflect on the need for churches to remain unwavering in their commitment to the Bible—interpreted in context—rather than bending to please people or culture. Through verse-by-verse study and apologetics, I aim to bring clarity, truth, and encouragement to women seeking to deepen their faith. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me playing piano, glamping in the great outdoors, or relaxing with my sweet cat, Bella, and a cup of coffee. Welcome to a space where faith is explored, womanhood is embraced, and truth takes center stage.

Welcome to The Profound Brunette, a space where faith is explored, womanhood is embraced, and every word is rooted in truth. You might be wondering about the name—truthfully, I don’t count myself as profound! When I started this blog back in the early 2000s, I was simply brainstorming something memorable and fun. While the name stuck, it’s a reminder that the real depth and wisdom come from God and His Word, not from me.

This blog is my response to His grace, a place where theology, doxology, and womanhood intersect.

Theology

Theology isn’t just for seminarians and pastors. It’s for every believer who has ever opened a Bible and wanted to understand what it actually says. That’s the conviction behind everything I write here.

I am captivated by the attributes of God, His sovereignty, holiness, steadfast love, and the way His Word transforms hearts and lives when we actually let it say what it says. Good, sound biblical hermeneutics isn’t complicated or intimidating once you understand that the goal is simple: find out what the text meant to its original audience, and let that meaning drive everything else. Scripture interprets Scripture. Context is everything. And the more carefully you read, the richer it gets.

You’ll find a lot of theology woven through my blog posts here, from deep dives into specific passages to bigger conversations about doctrine and the Christian life. None of it requires a seminary degree to follow along. It just requires a Bible and a willingness to let it speak.

Doxology

Psalm 100:1 says, “Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into His presence with singing!” Worship is at the heart of this blog because it’s at the heart of every believer.

But worship isn’t just music on a Sunday morning. It’s the posture of a life oriented toward God. When I write about theology, that’s worship. When I dig into a difficult passage and let it reshape how I think, that’s worship. When I encourage women to embrace what Scripture says even when culture pushes back, that’s worship too. Doxology isn’t a category of content here, it’s the reason for all of it.

You’ll also find that music and hymns weave their way into my writing naturally, because I genuinely believe the church sings its theology, and what we sing matters.

Womanhood

Our culture often promotes a view of womanhood that conflicts with the Bible’s beautiful, countercultural vision. Titus 2:3-5 calls us to live in a way that honors God, teaching, encouraging, and embracing the roles He designed for us.

That means we’re going to talk about things here that can feel uncomfortable in today’s climate: biblical womanhood, submission, gender roles, modesty, and the dignity and purpose God has woven into being a woman. I’m not interested in softening Scripture to make it more palatable, but I’m also not interested in being combative about it. My goal is to open the Word, look at what it actually says in context, and trust that God’s design is worth embracing, not apologizing for.
