About

Hi, I’m Melissa! I’m a writer in the Pacific Northwest, passionate about exploring faith and encouraging women to stand firm on God’s Word. I grew up in a traditional Lutheran church and spent many years in a large evangelical church after joining in my early 20s. These experiences have shaped my writing, where I reflect on the need for churches to remain unwavering in their commitment to the Bible—interpreted in context—rather than bending to please people or culture. Through verse-by-verse study and apologetics, I aim to bring clarity, truth, and encouragement to women seeking to deepen their faith. When I’m not writing, you’ll find me playing piano, glamping in the great outdoors, or relaxing with my sweet cat, Bella, and a cup of coffee. Welcome to a space where faith is explored, womanhood is embraced, and truth takes center stage.

Welcome to The Profound Brunette, a space where faith is explored, womanhood is embraced, and every word is rooted in truth. You might be wondering about the name—truthfully, I don’t count myself as profound! When I started this blog back in the early 2000s, I was simply brainstorming something memorable and fun. While the name stuck, it’s a reminder that the real depth and wisdom come from God and His Word, not from me.

This blog is my response to His grace, a place where theology, doxology, and womanhood intersect.

Theology

I am captivated by the attributes of God—His sovereignty, holiness, and love—and the way His Word transforms hearts and lives. As I study the Bible, I share what I learn with an unapologetic desire to glorify God and God alone. Here, we don’t shy away from hard truths but delight in scripture’s clarity and context, always seeking to live for His glory.

Doxology

Psalm 100:1 says, “Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into His presence with singing!” Worship is at the heart of this blog because it’s at the heart of every believer. Through awareness of God’s goodness and the incredible privilege of worship, we find joy and purpose in serving and singing to Him.

Womanhood

Our culture often promotes a view of womanhood that conflicts with the Bible’s beautiful, countercultural vision. Titus 2:3-5 calls us to live in a way that honors God—teaching, encouraging and embracing the roles He designed for us. Here, we won’t skip over or dismiss scripture because it feels uncomfortable. Instead, we’ll explore what it means to live as women who glorify God in every area of life.

I believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, eternal, and authoritative Word of God. It is the final standard for truth and life.

  • “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)
  • “Forever, O Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.” (Psalm 119:89)

I believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
  • “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” (Deuteronomy 6:4)

I believe in the sinless life of Jesus Christ, His miracles, and His teachings, culminating in His atoning death on the cross as the substitute sacrifice for sinners.

  • “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
  • “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” (Galatians 4:4-5)

I affirm His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, and His role as the only Savior, Mediator between God and man, and Head of the church.

  • “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5)
  • “And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.” (Colossians 1:18)

I believe Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to judge the living and the dead at the time appointed by the Father.

  • “And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.” (Mark 13:26)
  • “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” (2 Corinthians 5:10)

I believe in the sanctity of life, the biblical union of one man and one woman in marriage, and that our biological gender is a purposeful and unchangeable gift from God, reflecting His creative design.

  • “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
  • “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24)
  • “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:13)

I believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential, producing a transformed life that bears fruit consistent with the character of Christ. I believe in the sovereignty of God in salvation, trusting daily in Christ’s finished work for my righteousness.

  • “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • “He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.” (Titus 3:5)
  • “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Solus Christus, Sola Scriptura, Soli Deo Gloria.

  • “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36)
